Message from the President
Simon Lovatt

Welcome to the Ruakura Campus Clubs (Inc.).
Located on the beautiful Ruakura Research
Campus, on the east side of Hamilton, our
Club is a great place to participate in
formal or informal sport, summer or winter,
seriously or socially. Squash, soccer,
cricket, tennis, darts and petanque are all
very popular in the Club, as is our swimming
pool during the summer months.
Come to the
café on the hill, beside the Farmers’ Hall,
for good food, socialising and networking
during weekdays. After work on weekdays, the
bar is open for food (be sure to catch the
special menu on Friday evenings), drink and
socialising. We have regular Club social
functions and members often use the Club
facilities for birthdays, weddings and other
social occasions.
Most people become members because the Club
is convenient to work (about two thirds of
members work at Ruakura, at the Waikato
Innovation Park or at the University of
Waikato) or home, for sports and for the
variety of NZ craft beers that we have on
tap. People remain members and encourage
their friends to join because they enjoy
being with a great mix of people and because
of the great atmosphere they find in sports
teams and in social situations.
There’s a lot I like about the Club and I’m
glad to be able to contribute to its
success. But maybe the best thing about the
Club, for me, is the way any member can come
into the café or the bar, introduce
themselves to a table of people they haven’t
met before and easily join a conversation
with some of the most interesting people
you’ll ever come across. If you haven’t
tried it, I recommend giving it a go. Or, if
you’re feeling lost, ask the staff or look
out for me – we’ll help you out.
If you’re not a member of the Club, we also
welcome guests accompanied by Club members
and members of other clubs affiliated to
Clubs New Zealand. If you’d be interested in
joining, the management, staff, committee
members and I would all be glad to show you
around and introduce you.
I look forward to seeing you in the Club
soon.
